A few photos

Note: This post was migrated from my old blog software. It hasn't been cleaned up yet (and might not ever be). Don't be surprised if the formatting, links, images, etc... are messed up.

I'm still working on getting my gallery up and running. I've posted a few shots here:

Copyright in Photoshop

For those of you that use Adobe PhotoShop. If you want to add a text copyright stamp to your image while using the text tool you can do it by holding down the "Alt" key and then pressing the following number in order on your number pad: 0, 1, 6, 9.
While you are typing in the numbers you won't see anything change. Once you punched in all four and release the "Alt" key, the copyright symbol will appear.

F3 Nostalgia

I'm watching the move Kalifornia.
In it one of the characters is a photographer. She is using a Nikon F3 which was my first real camera and the one that I shot with for probably 10 years. I've still got it and it's still a fine machine. Of course, I don't really use it since all I really shoot is digital. Maybe when I retire or become a full time photographer again I'll bring it back out.
In the movie the camera has a motor drive attached. To the sound designers credit, they actually recorded the sound of an F3 with an MD-4 drive on it. Most movies I've seen when a photographer is shooting, the sound is from a completely different camera.

Emmy. Who would have thought

This easily falls into the category of things I would never have dreamed my name would be involved with. None the less, one of our PGA TOUR internet applications named TOURCast just won an Emmy.
Basically, I'm just shaking my head in disbelief.

Black Velvet

I went to a fabric store today. A place called JoAnn's in the new St. John's Center. The store itself was quite large and there were maybe 30 customers in there. The total number of guys? 2. Me and a guy who must have been a manager.
The reason for the visit was to get some black velvet. The plan is to use the cloth to provide a nice tabletop setup that I can use to shoot with. The theory is that the velvet will sop up enough light that the background or resting surface of whatever I'm shooting will translate to pure black.
Here's a couple shots from a lighting test I just did. In both image the leaf and the glasses are laying directly on the velvet. I didn't underexpose on the strobe or adjust any curves in photoshop. The "K" was at 100% naturally.
Very happy about that.

I created another blog that I'm going to use for code snippits since few people other than me are likely to be interested in that besides myself.
new URL is: http://alancode.blogspot.com
As a results I have deleted some posts from this blog and reacreated them there.

Old Eyes - New Eyes

Cleaning out some old papers I found a packing slip with my former contact prescription on it.
Right
Power: -4.25
BC: 8.9
Dia 14.0
Left
Power: -4.50
BC: 8.9
Dia: 14.0
I'm not sure where the line for legally blind is, but I know I couldn't do much without some type of corrective lens. Then, I had the lasik last month. It's amazing. For those photographers out there contacts were like looking at prints and after lasik it's like looking at chromes.
Welcome to the world were science fiction has come to pass. I mean, I had my eye lasered and now I can see. Wild.
