Kickoff Saturday Elephant -- Photo for September 1, 2012

Huzzah! Bama Football starts tonight!

To finish the elephant countdown, I'm changing things up a little. The elephants in the rest of the countdown were gifts my mom has given me since I moved to Florida (A.K.A. Enemy Territory). Today's elephant was given to me by my dad when I was about five. We were living in Virginia. He had taken a business trip to Africa and brought this little fella back to give me as a souvenir. The piece is made of ebony with ivory tusks. I've treasured this guy since long before we moved to Alabama or I attended The Capstone. It's neat that something I loved so much as a kid has such a connection to the rest of my life.

Here's hoping everyone has a great season and the player for each team stay healthy and safe.

Roll Tide, Roll!

Normally, I shoot photos on one day and post them on the next. That way, I get to pick from all the possible options. Today, I knew from the moment I woke up what the shot would be. No need to wait.

Here's the T-minus One Day Elephant from the collection my mom has given me over the years. To say I'm excited about Bama kicking off tomorrow is an understatement.

Roll Tide!

Another change in the lighting. This little guy is sitting on a piece of foam core board. There is a bare flash behind and a little above and then a side flash that's flagged off so that it only illuminates his head and ear.

Roll Tide, y'all.

For this one, I changed it up a little and did a blown out white background. There was on strobe behind the scene pointing at a piece of paper that acted as the background. A second strobe to the side shooting through another piece of paper provide the side light.

I'm guessing that I knew what the position of a light switch meant long before I could read. It's good to know there's text on them letting me know what's "ON" and "OFF" in case I forget.
